It’s vacation time, so who can blame you for feeling relaxed and breezy? At times like these, it’s best to unwind your night with some music, and preferably, a chilled beverage in hand. Will it be reggae, acoustic music or some rock ‘n roll? We’ve rounded up the best live music venues in Samui, so take your pick:

Fisherman’s Reggae Bar

Fisherman’s Reggae Bar boasts a quaint setting, prime beachfront location, friendly service and an extensive menu with reasonable prices. The vibes are casual and fuss free here, so it won’t be your cup of tea if you’re looking for a sophisticated venue. But it’s just perfect for nights when you’re in the mood for soaking up the laidback ambience and bobbing to the Bob Marley beats.

Fisherman’s Reggae Bar is located along the eastern end of Bangrak beach.

The Viper Room

The Viper Room – tucked away along a little alley off the main road – is where fans of rock and metal music go. We’re cheating a little by putting The Viper Room on our list – while there aren’t live bands playing here, you’ll be choosing from an extensive selection of rock and roll tunes out of a jukebox at this atmospheric bar (we love the walls covered with music memorabilia!). Expect friendly service from the owner, as well as reasonably priced food and drinks.

The Viper Room is located at  Soi Holiday Park Hotel, Lamai Beach, Koh Samui, p. +66 81 728 5495. Open 2pm-2am, Mondays – Saturdays.

BEACH

From acoustic blues to rap or rock, BEACH has it all. This Asian fusion tapas bar has regular music acts lined up for Thursdays to Saturdays; Robson kickstarts the week on Thursday nights with a mix of acoustic, rap or rock tunes, Oliver Jones helms the stage on Fridays and local band Baby Funk play a range of Thai music on Saturdays. Once every fortnight, BEACH hosts an open mic night, where local or international musicians are welcomed to take the stage for a set or two.

BEACH is located at 86/11 Moo 5 Bangrak Village, Bophut, p. 085 222 5772 or 090 912 2583. Open 6pm-12am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Samui Rock Bar

The vibes are laidback and relaxed at Samui Rock Bar. This beachfront venue – featuring a bar built into a rock formation, decks littered with floor cushions and Bob Marley posters – is delightfully quirky. It’s the place to go for reggae music, cold beers and Thai food – oh, and there’s bamboo tattoo studio on site too, if you fancy getting inked!

Samui Rock Bar is located at Lamai Beach, Koh Samui, p. +66 89 593 9220.

Nikki Beach

Chill out in style at the ultra-trendy Nikki Beach. It’s no wonder why this beachfront venue is a favourite hangout for vacationers and expats – there’s something for everyone through the week.

We love the Sushi Blues on every Tuesdays, where you’ll enjoy Nikki Beach’s popular sushi and sushi boat specials along with live jazz music. Return again on Wednesdays for Cinema on the Sand, a weekly event made up of an evening of dining, film and live music on the pristine shores of Lipa Noi beach.

Nikki Beach is located at 96/3 Moo 2, Lipa Noi, Koh Samui, p. +66 77 914 500. Open 11am-11pm daily.

I DiN Restaurant and Bar

This cosy and comfy bar offers friendly service, a range of seafood dishes (mm, clams in white wine, anyone?) and live bands playing several nights out of the week.

I DiN Restaurant and Bar is located at Soi 4, Maenam, Koh Samui, p. +66 61 651 2848. Open 6pm-12am on Mondays – Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Samui Shamrock Irish Pub

Sports, pool or live music – Shamrock Irish Pub has it all. Six massive TVs within draw hordes of sports lovers, slate pool tables bring in the billiard fans and a vibrant live music scene (music acts play here five times a week during the peak tourist season) attracts a fun-loving crowd.

Just like what you’d expect of any decent Irish pub, Shamrock dishes out a range of beers – from draft Guinness to Tiger and Fosters, as well as Kilkenny and Magners ciders – along with an extensive selection of cocktails.

Samui Shamrock Irish Pub is located at 124/144 Lamai Beach Road, Koh Samui, p. +66 81 597 8572. Open 9:30am-2am daily.

Tropical Murphy’s

Tropical Murphy’s boasts beautiful interiors, a wide selection of beers, tasty pub grub, pool, quizzes, live sports screenings, live music and a bustling atmosphere. In between all that action, take a breather at the outside terrace while you sip an ice cold beer and take in the street sights.

Tropical Murphy’s is located at 14/40 Chaweng Beach Road, Moo 2, Bophut, Koh Samui, p. +66 77 413 614. Open 9am-2am daily.

On Street Bar

Colourful and quirky On Street Bar draws a crowd each night. There are plenty of reasons for its popularity – from its funky decor and excellent cocktails, to the friendly service, cheerful ambience and live music. Do check it out!

On Street Bar is located at 12/7 Moo.2 Chaweng Beach, Koh Samui, p. +66 87 552 3524. Open 7pm-12am daily.

  • There is one more 100% vegan place on Koh Samui (in Lamai area, just in 120 meters from Lamai Veggie which is the last one in this listing) — Yoga House & Spa (http://house-yoga.com/en/vegan-cafe). It is inside the yoga studio, just opened (July 2016), is cozy & nicely decorated, offers (mostly) European dishes & desserts from Monday to Saturday (11 AM — 7 PM).

  • Thank you! Such articles are very useful. Would be twice great if you can add some info about Yoga House to your article… ;-) Photos and details are available by the link I've provided (or I can answer any questions you have).

  • Koh Samui photographers are really amazing photographers. They make the moment memorable for the rest of our life. Recently I attend my friend's marriage party, it was beautifully designed and maintained until the end. Thanks to Magic Day Co. Ltd Wedding planner to make her marriage memorable.

  • Awesome article and such helpful information. Thank you so much for the topics and the content. It helps a lot, after I was hopping around the beaches on Samui. My favorite one was the naturism beach in the north. A small bay, only us and coconut trees. Oh, i really over the place. But now I am back in Canada and saving money for my next trip in 2 months. Last time I passed the chance to do my diving license on Koh Tao. That is what I need to do this year. If somebody has any suggestions, I will be very happy. Unfortunately, on the last day, I had booked a nice boat cruise tour from Samui to Koh Phangan, for a very fair price, and with excellent service. I saw too late, that this brilliant company https://kohsamui.tours offers all tours and activities like diving or jet ski safari around Samui Archipel. I start already to study a bit for my next stay and looking for your next blog posts. Have a good time and thanks for all.

  • Thank you very much for these extraordinary helpful articles, great pictures and advertised tours. Based on your information, we decided to take a guided boat tour through the Koh Samui archipelago. With https://kohsamui.tours we found a very cheap boat tour that we can really recommend. From the pick up to the food and the tour guide everything was sensational. We surprised, that everything was running so smoothly and comfortably. We never expect that Thailand has so much beautiful nature to offer that it is truly incredible. We are looking forward to further articles from you and read with great interest. Best regards and stay healthy.
